Weidmüller#M4000_Part1_Factory Reset/Firmware update

This is a new series of articles and we will write the articles using the Weidmüller M4000. We will start by restoring the CPU’s factory settings and updating the firmware.

Let’s get started.

UC20-M4000

The UC20-M4000 is a controller that can connect up to 64 u-remote modules via the remote system bus.

There are also four Ethernet connections for integration into existing networks or HMI connections, The integrated engineering tool u-create web can be activated via USB service interface or Ethernet.

The u-create web allows Configuration and parameterisation of u-control stations and programming of control applications according to IEC 61131-3.

RECOVERY

Although a new CPU is in my hand, I do not know the user Password. So we will  perform a Factory Reset once: prepare a USB or Micro SD Card and Format it to FAT32.

Create an empty File in Drive and name it RECOVERY.

Power down the U4000 and install the USB and Micro SD Card. After that, switch the CPU back on. Then, when the CPU is up and running, unplug the USB and the M4000 will enter Recovery Mode.

Access the M4000 Web Server and use Reset>Factory Reset to reset the CPU to factory settings.

Wait a while…

Done!Agree to the license and proceed with the Process.

Create User.

Done!Next, login to the Web Server.

Login the User you have just created.

Done!I was able to Login to the Web Server.

Update Firmware

The latest firmware and information on the Controller M4000 can be downloaded from the Weidmüller website. It should be noted that the Download grade of the Firmware recommends connecting the computer to the controller via USB, which, depending on the Firmware File in the Downloadgrade, may result in a change of IP address or a change of protocol.

Weidmüller also recommends that firmware downgrade between minors is not recommended (e.g. from 2.1 to 2.0). And if you need to downgrade the Firmware, you should first reset the control unit to factory settings.

Download the latest Firmware for the M4000 on the Link below.

https://www.weidmueller.com/int/service/support_for_u_create_web.jsp

As of 2024-04, the Latest Firmware for u-OS is v2.1.1.

Unzip the Zip File.

Access the M4000 Web Server and click on Software & Updates>Updates & Installation>Update & installation.

This is the M4000 update screen, click on the white area under Update & installation and select the Firmware File you have just downloaded.

Wait a while…

The system reboots automatically.

Finally, check the Firmware.
