Indusol#PROmesh P10+_Part01_Start up your network equipment!

This is a new article series and we will be developing a variety of articles on Indusol’s networking equipment. We will start with a brief introduction to Indusol and how they set up their management switches. The PROmesh P10+ will be used in this article.

Let’s enjoy FA.

PROmesh P10+?

The PROmesh P10+ Managed Industrial Ethernet Switch supports data transfer rates up to 2.5 Gbit/s and is specifically designed for use in industrial networks.

Integrating EMC and performance monitoring allows for continuous network monitoring and diagnostics to ensure network stability.

Integrated security features such as firewalls and NAT routing allow implementation of various security concepts compliant with IEC 62443 and others. UL/CSA certification ensures that international safety standards are met.

Main Features:

  • Constant physical monitoring of data lines with line diagnostics
  • PROFINET v2.4 certified
  • EtherNet / IP support (EDS file)
  • 8 RJ45 ports and 2 SFP slots for a wide range of network options
  • Wide operating temperature range from -40°C to 75°C
  • Compact design for DIN-rail mounting
  • CE | UKCA and UL/CSA certifications

The SFP slot allows flexible use of copper and fiber optic cables. PROFINET v2.4 certification and an extended operating temperature range emphasize the suitability for industrial applications. The provided EPLAN macro facilitates integration into existing concepts. Installation is simplified by the compact design and top-hat rail mounting option.

PROmesh P products, consisting of PROFINET-certified and EtherNet/IP-enabled switches, revolutionize the performance of industrial networks. Combining managed switch technology with diagnostic and network monitoring capabilities, these devices represent a new Solution in the managed switch class.

This managed switch provides network performance and extended compatibility by supporting a wide variety of industrial applications. It integrates seamlessly into the Condition Monitoring & Security Management System, providing a wide range of condition monitoring capabilities. In this way, it lays the foundation for effective and predictive maintenance of fieldbus, OT and SCADA networks in production facilities.

And thanks to a user-friendly web interface, it is easy to integrate and monitor industrial networks for robust and efficient operation.

Condition monitoring and network diagnostics

It is Indusol’s PROmesh series that monitors mechanical signs of cable wear and aging and can detect various values in the device, such as shield current and temperature.

This allows for early detection of new failures and signs of network wear and tear so that countermeasures can be taken, preventing expensive unplanned machine stoppages due to network failures that are not detected in time.

This increases system availability and reduces costs.

Layout

Here is an outline drawing of the PROmesh P10+ used in this article.

Power Supply

PROmesh P10+ can connect redundant power supplies VDC1 and VDC2 to the corresponding and marked connection terminals (VDC1, GND and VDC2, GND) of the included 7-pin terminal block adapter to ensure system availability.

For power supplies, select devices that comply with UL60950-1/UL62368-1, Class 2 (NEC), and limited energy sources (UL61010-1).

The 7-pin 2.5 mm² connector terminal block on the top of the device is assigned as follows

There is also a potential-free error relay contact (NC contact) at the OUT terminal inside the unit. This relay functions as an alarm transmission.

Relay ON conditions can be linked to various alarm triggers in the software, and relay contacts open according to the settings, for example, in the event of a power failure or port status change

LED displays

There are four diagnostic LEDs on the front of the switch and status LEDs on each of the ten data ports. The LEDs display the most important diagnostic information about the devices and connection status of the PROmesh P10+ in the PROFINET network.

Data ports

PROmesh P10+ complies with the PROFINET standard 2.4 and is equipped with 10 data ports for data transmission up to 2.5 Gbit/s. The actual data rate is negotiated by the device using auto-negotiation.

Reset button

The reset button is used in the event of an unexpected anomaly with the PROmesh P10+ that renders it inaccessible. The PROmesh P10+ can be rebooted or reset to factory settings.

To do this, follow these steps

  • Reboot device: press reset button for 1 second
  • Reset to factory defaults: press reset button until all LEDs turn off (approx. 10 seconds)

Network topologies

PROmesh P10+ is compatible with a variety of topologies.

Star topologies

The traditional Ethernet star structure can be linked to a PROmesh P10+ switch without additional configuration, and the device is ready to use.

Ring structure

PROmesh P10+ supports the IEC 62439 standard and allows reconfiguration of information transfer in a simple redundant configuration (ring topology, see Figure 6). This allows reconfiguration times of up to 200 ms, depending on the size of the system.

Web Server

The PROmesh P10+ switch has a built-in, state-of-the-art web interface that can be comfortably configured from any web browser. In addition, the PROmesh P10+ and the client PC to be connected must be in the same IP address range and IP subnet. An IP address must be assigned to the PROmesh P10+ upon first use.

Default Setting:

  • IP address: 0.0.0.0
  • Subnet mask: 0.0.0.0
  • Gateway: 0.0.0.0
  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin
